Honoring those who serve our country is a good thing. And as Americans, recognizing sacrifice is part of our national fabric. We owe our servicemen and servicewomen a debt of gratitude, especially now. With troop reductions totaling nearly 15%, thousands in the military are transitioning to new roles in civilian life. Which is why we’re pleased to be part of the Joining Forces commitment with the White House to hire veterans.

Yet we must confess, our commitment to hiring veterans goes deeper than our patriotic duty. As the nation’s 6th largest energy utility, we need to replenish our aging workforce. A highly-skilled workforce with many of the talents today’s veterans possess.

So why are veterans in demand at Xcel Energy?

We recognize that military personnel have been trained and operate with certain qualities:

Teamwork – Ability to bring the efforts of all towards a positive outcome

Integrity – Accountability and mission-oriented values

Leadership – The perseverance to drive forward

Also, Xcel Energy seeks the technical, hands-on experience and problem-solving skills that are prominent with today’s military veterans. These are the qualities that make for ideal employees, especially in our engineering, field services and technology areas.

Our Focus on Military Employment

Xcel Energy is spotlighting military employment efforts that now include a new recruitment video which is targeted at those who’ve served in the military. A print advertising and educational campaign highlighting transition skills is supporting the military employment outreach.

If you know a veteran looking for a rewarding career, direct them to Military Careers at Xcel Energy.
